The creator of the series is Gideon Raff, one of the authors of Homeland, a highly popular series in the United States. Raff had previously competed at the Emmy and BAFTA a total of 5 times with Homeland, and managed to reach the award at the Emmy held in 2012.

Sacha Baron Cohen plays Eli Cohen, who clerked in the Israeli government in the 1960s but spied by entering Syria on behalf of the Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service, under a second identity.
